MAD BOILER — Built To Last, Like The Systems We Install
Specializing in rare, discontinued, and legacy hydronic heating systems — including hard-to-source parts for vintage steam boilers and imported unit models that others won’t touch. With over two decades of experience tackling the most stubborn HVAC challenges, MAD BOILER brings precision craftsmanship and deep industry knowledge to Chicago's older buildings.

Behind the scenes

Our story
Founded in 1998 by veteran technician and founder Ray Kowalski, MAD BOILER began after he was repeatedly turned away from sourcing parts for a 1960s-era steam boiler system in an historic Chicago warehouse. With no local support available, Ray spent months tracking down the exact valve components and eventually built a reputation for handling systems others considered obsolete. Today, his team continues to restore forgotten heating technologies that keep Chicago’s older neighborhoods warm.
“Our historic Chicago brownstone had a 1920s steam radiator system that broke down during the worst of winter, and no one would touch it—until we called MAD BOILER. Ray and our team not only found the exact replacement valve for the obsolete unit, but they also diagnosed why the entire system was failing. They got us back to heat in just one day.”
